Hannah grew up living around the world with her family in Indonesia, Colombia, and Libya. Along with her family and pets, art remained one of few constants in her life, traveling with her everywhere she went. Her art began to take on meaning from the nomadic lifestyle they lived, transforming into a fascination for what we define as home and finding ways to feel at home anywhere. Through her illustration, Hannah hopes to take the viewer back to the memories that feel like home to them, the places we go when we need comfort, security, and hope. Through themes of folklore and rural aesthetics, Hannah’s images reframe the mundane, reminding the viewer that the ingredients for a home are all around us; in the making of a chicken pot pie, the chopping of wood, the pulling of weeds, or a nap in the sun. She explores domestic tasks and adventure, finding the sweet spot in the middle, where we can once again feel like children discovering the world for the first time.
Hannah attended the University of Wyoming and California State University, Fullerton, receiving a BA in Art and an MFA in illustration, respectively. Hannah’s passion lies in children’s illustration, though she has a background in scientific illustration, working with professors and research departments from the University of Wyoming, Princeton University, and UC Riverside. Her love for children’s books, fairytales, science, and animals, have come together to create her narrative and detailed watercolor illustrations, telling stories of childhood, imagination, connection, and discovery, through the lens of cats in overalls.
