After living and working in Kansas City, Missouri, since college, John Keeling has
moved to Centennial, Wyoming, this year. He looks forward to being immersed in nature
throughout all the seasons, painting in his studio on the 2.5 acres in the North Fork that
he shares with his partner, Colin, and their dogs.
John’s love of animals fuels his primary business… painting custom portraits of dogs,
cats and horses. His website, www.johnkeelingpaintings.com, offers easy access to you
to secure a custom watercolor of your beloved pet.
He is represented by MHS Licensing, and his watercolor images can be found on a
range of consumer products, including greeting cards, table linens, and home décor. He
recently completed illustrating his fourth children’s book, “Oliver & Twist, a tale of two
kitties,” written by Denver author, Linda Chain, and published by Jayme Mansfield of
Cowgirl Publishing on the Vee Bar Ranch.
John shares his love of watercolor through teaching. He offers individual instruction and
group workshops, both here and abroad. In recent years, he has given workshops in
Provence and Sweden, and in September 2026, he will be leading a 10-day watercolor
workshop at the La Romita School of Art in Umbria, Italy. He is on the faculty for
Watercolor Live 2027, sponsored by Streamline Publishing.
Born in Salina, Kansas, John earned his BFA-Design from The University of Kansas in
1983. He worked for Hallmark Cards, Inc., in Kansas City, Missouri, as an art director
and creative director, retiring in 2013. He is a Signature Member of the Watercolor
Honor Society.
